Lora, who visits the blog from time to time to find out what we have eaten, reports that the Friends of the GNW Library is a newly forming group which will be affiliated with Friends of the SA Public Library. Locals may know that there had been a group called called GNW Library Friends (which I have mentioned here), however it appears that group has disbanded or something like that.
Regardless, the new group made up of some of the same folks I believe, is going to have a membership table at the 15th Anniversary Celebration event at the Great Northwest Library on October 17th from 10am to 3pm.
I won't lie and tell you that I hit our branch library on a weekly basis, but I will tell you that supporting it and supporting the Friends is certainly a worthwhile thing. Just the book sales that these folks put on to support the library are worth attending and supporting. The new Friends will continue the book sales as well as hold monthly meetings and volunteer opportunities to allow everyone to get involved.
Need more information: Go here and/or send me an e-mail and I can put you in touch with Denise Barlow, one of the folks organizing the event.
I'll be there on the 17th, doing a ham radio demonstration booth out front. I heard there was a disagreement in the group, and one of the founders (A former GNW Director) was tossed out as President. Don't know all the details, but I won't put any more here that I do know.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the GNW library hours are changing, effective October 1st.
Most days, open @ 10am, close @ 6pm, other than Monday and Wednesday when they don't open until 12 Noon and stay open until 8pm.
This is a cut-back on library hours from the current schedule, which used to open at 9am most days except Sunday and Monday, and close at 9pm, except for Friday, Saturday and Sunday which closed at 5pm. Old sched had 3 days open for 12 hours, while new sched only opens 8 hours each day.
Hi Dave,
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know that the Great Northwest Library Friends, after 15 years of service to the library and community are no longer officially recognized. Many of the members are not going with the new group, FOSAPL. We split from them years ago because of administrative and financial disputes.
It has been a pleasure to serve the GNW Library and the communuity. Many thanks to the community for all the years of generous support to enhance and improve the GNW Library.
BTW Lee - I was not "tossed out". I resigned, along with other members of the group for the aformentioned reasons. You could have asked before publishing libelous information.
