I had written a few times about the Reverend Seymour Perkins, an artist of sorts and a counselor to the addicted, who has been a fixture on San Antonio's near East Side. Aside from the story making the news due to Rev. Perkins popularity, I wondered if this type of thing happened in "normal neighborhoods". Well look no more, code compliance has made its way to the Five Oh.
Here's the short version: Some folks attempted to build a house in the neighborhood and stopped before it was complete. Hood rats made their way into the empty dwelling and commenced to tag things up, smoke the chronic and pork one another without regard for paying taxes or meeting the minimal requirements of the deed restrictions of our HOA. Following a year of bureaucracy, it was on the owners to tear down the house. We learned that the owners had built a cement frickin' house, roof included. WTF? I get cement floors and cement walls, but cement ceilings and roofs? Nice shingles, dumbass! Talk about Strange in 78250.
So here we go. The order comes down to demolish the house and the owner/builder gets started by cutting out portions of the roof. The cement roof. And now we have an unstable situation. Heaven forbid a handful of teens go into this house to tag the place and it fall on them. Well, let me try that again. Heaven forbid an innocent person find them self in that abandon house and it fall on them.

So as you might imagine, lots of folks want this place torn down, and now! And I mean with the same interest that the city and the media has going for the Seymour Perkins place.
Turns out, demolition was underway today, Saturday. And here are your pictures.

Rest easy, you shan't see any artwork here, and apparently, no cheap hookers. Perhaps we need an art district in the Five Oh.
You've gathered by now that I totally despise taggers or so-called graffiti artists, so to laugh at this totally sends the wrong message. Nevertheless, if you are one of the goons who tags in my neighborhood, I hope you will learn to be a little more humorous in your vandalism like this guy.
Hat tip to Jeff.
Admittedly, I'm not a mobile phone power-user. I make a handful of calls per week, use my cell for long distance calls and generally, on our shared plan, my wife probably uses about 85 percent of the minutes we use together. So really, I shouldn't care about this. I should be happy to have a cell phone that rings when the call is for me, takes a picture when I don't have my regular camera with me, and lets me dial a number and make a call on those rare occasions I can't wait until I'm home to talk, right?
And this is all the more reason that my LG Chocolate phone sucks. For crap sakes, I see people with phones nearly glued to their ears they use them so much. People sit there and type out novel-length text messages while driving down the road, and for some reason, their phones don't have lives of their own. But no, my phone, apparently disgruntled over my limited use of it, arbitrarily calls people within my contact list at will.
Have you ever walked past a guy in HEB and heard his pocket whistling? That was probably me. With the phone in the closed position, it will make calls with nothing more than the friction caused by sitting in my pocket, and keep your minds out of the gutter - I'm not in the habit of any fancy-pants dialing.
I cannot count the number of times that I have been driving along in the car thinking that I was hearing voices in my head, calling my name. Hey, I'm prone to visions, you know; you never know if I could hear a voice giving me the correct lottery numbers or something. But so far, everytime I've heard the voices, it turns out to be someone in my pocket who my phone has called. The hell! If I wanted to talk to someone, I'd make the call - I don't need any assistance from LG. I wonder if these people are in cahoots with the cell company.
Another thing I hate about this stupid phone is that on those occasions when I really do want to make a call, the buttons do not work. For example, if I click on the contacts list and attempt to scroll down the list, it will automatically scroll by itself and not stop. That's right. My list of contacts will scroll like credits in a continuous loop before my eyes, no matter how hard I try to stop it.
On the few occasions that I can get it to go to a specific contact number, I click on the send button, and it simply does nothing. In other words, the phone is useless unless I want to stare at my contact list scroll before my eyes over and over, or unless on the off-chance that I want to call someone and the phone happens to call the person I want to talk to by itself from my pocket.
Take my word for it. Skip the LG Chocolate.
As a service to those of you who have never had the opportunity to cross the pond and visit London, I'd encourage you to take a brief excursion without even leaving the comfort of your home. Jeff Kay from The West Virginia Surf Report, one of my favorite places to visit, has a full report on the trip he and his family took just recently. So place all your liquids in a baggy and if you don't have your own metal detector at home, go ahead and frisk yourself; then click here.
You know that old deal about the US Postal Service and the slogan "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds", yea, well that ain't really their slogan. But if it were official, they could add Fire to the motto.
Turns out some semi-junk mail of mine was caught up in an accident involving a mail truck on the way to San Antonio which resulted in a fire of some sort. The USPS folks recovered all the mail that wasn't burnt to a crisp, and stuck each charred item in an envelope with an explanation and got it to the rightful recipients.
Now silly me, I thought it was some sort of marketing ploy when I looked through the clear envelop and saw the charred edges of my mail, so I opened it. Now, my office pretty much smells like my wife tried to burn the place down.
But, good on the Postal folks anyway. It could have been a check from Ed McMahon or something important, so I'm glad they got it to me, still moist from the fire department and charred from the fire. Oh, and I hope the driver is okay.
